Andrei's Rebalanced Classes And Gameplay Enhancement (ARCAGE) - File Description  


Description:
A lot of people feel that KotOR2:TSL is way too easy, especially once you're around level 20. There are a few mods aiming to make the game more difficult by increasing health points of opponents and such, but none of them really adds something to the game in my opinion.

ARCAGE doesn't increase the potency of the enemies, but rather decreases the potency of the player and the party. This also leads to more specialization - know how you can build up a Sentinel with 20 points in every skill by level 25 who can cast Force powers all day long and is still a kick-ass fighter? That won't be possible in ARCAGE.

A rather unique feature of ARCAGE are attribute prerequisites for feats. For instance Master Two-Weapon Fighting requires STR 20 and DEX 20. In addition, some of the feats have been rebalanced - e.g. the Dueling feat chain has been made "cheaper" than the Two-Weapon Fighting feat chain to make it a more attractive alternative. On top of that a lot of feats have been made class- and level-independent.
The skills system has been overhauled, introducing a mix of K1 and K2. Automatic HP regeneration has been removed and the Heal powers rely on Treat Injury skill rather than level.

Also the feats, levels and attributes of your companions have been adjusted to make your party more diverse and your gameplay experience more unique.

ARCAGE comes in two difficulty versions for both the casual gamer and the die-hard XP collector.

1. INSTALLATION:

Run ARCAGE.exe and follow the instructions. ARCAGE can behave unpredictably if you use it in a previously saved game, so better start a new one.

2. WHAT THIS MOD DOES:

The main purpose of ARCAGE is to make the game harder - not by boosting the stats of enemies, but rather by decreasing the potency of the player and the party. Another aim is to increase the diversity and specialization of party members.
- Feats: ARCAGE adds attribute prerequisites for feats and removes some level and class restrictions. Instead of reaching certain levels you need to boost your physical attributes.
- Force powers: Not much changed here, only that the Heal power chain now relies on Treat Injury skill instead of level.
- HP regeneration: Removed completely to make Treat Injury more worthwhile.
- Party members: classes, attributes, feats, powers, and skills have been reworked.
- Classes: The rates at which the individual classes gain feats, powers, hitpoints, Force points, skill points, and saves have been adjusted.
- Character creation: Starting attribute points have been reduced to 18. Click on the "Recommended" button for this to take effect (leet version) or leave them at 30 if you want to use this mod without making the game too hard (lite version).
- Skills: The class skills system has been reworked; all classes have fewer class skills, and not all class skill feats can be selected by all classes. Sentinels, Scouts, Tech Specialists, and Expert Droids can have the most class skills. Awareness is available to all classes and Persuade to none.

3. DIFFICULTY:

ARCAGE comes in two versions, "lite" and "leet". The lite version is intended for players who don't want the difficulty to increase too much. To play the lite version, don't click on the "Recommended" button when choosing attributes in the character creation menu. To play the leet version, do click on said button. You can then redistribute the attribute points; the button is only there to make sure you have 18 points to spend instead of 30.
In my test run with a gray side Jedi Sentinel on "normal" difficulty level I found the leet version slightly more challenging than an unmodded game played on "difficult". The lite version played on "normal" should be somewhere between "normal" and "difficult".

If a backup folder has been created during installation, move all files within that folder to your override folder. ARCAGE also adds entries to dialog.tlk, but these need not be removed in order to uninstall ARCAGE.
Note: all files overwrite existent instances in the override folder except for spells.2da, where only the "spelldesc" and "impactscript" columns of the three Heal powers are modified.

6. COMPATIBILITY:

ARCAGE should be compatible with any mods that only add content, force powers, items, skins, scripts, characters, or modules.
