| Dak's Fully Playable Duros (Beta) - File Description |
 |
Description:
Dak_Drexl has produced another technically skilled modification for us here at KotOR Files this time for the original Knights of the Old Republic game. What this modification does is allow the player to make the player character a Duros. Unlike other modifications that do this, this mod places the head on top of a "human" body, what this means is that you can choose the various clothes available in game for your charachter to wear. So unlike most alien player charachter mods which just allow you to look like that alien, this mod allows you to change clothing which was first pioneered by RedRob. There is however a trade-off in having used this method which is that the Duros doesn't have any facial animations.
All in all this is an excellent modification, and it is recommended for anyone who wishes to play as an alien Duros, be sure to check out the screenshots to get an idea of what this modification does.
Enjoy! -- jonathan7

Description:
Adds a Duros as a selectable head in player creation. What makes it "fully" playable? What other playable alien mods do is simply make the entire alien body playable. This means that no matter what you
equip, the body will always remain wearing the same thing. What this mods does is add only the head, allowing you to wear any clothing or armor throughout the game.
Notes:
-The reason this is a BETA version is because there is one drawback to using this playable alien alternative: the head, or rather the face, is un-animated. So this means that while the head is indeed
attached to the body and moves accordingly, the face will look frozen.
-Even though the face is not moving, don't let that dissuade you. The body has all working animations as shown in the screenshot.
-I'm not sure if there will be an updated version .5 adding more heads because as far as I can see they are all very different in terms of adding them like this.
-Fix includes portraits but no DS transitions. I wouldn't know what to do!
-Mods I recommend to install alongside this are "Alien Species DLG Correction" by sirbacon and "Species Specific Feats" and "Eleven PC Species Soundsets" by RedRob41.

sirbacon From: (Texas) Joined: May 7th, 2008 Posts: 54 | Oh, this is great! I wish there were more alien replacement mods that did this. It gets boring having to look at a Rodian's default clothes for an entire game. |
Dak_Drexl From: Joined: January 5th, 2010 Posts: 219 | Thanks everyone. The reason people don't do this is because it's pretty hard to figure out. Took a lot of screwing around with this one and when I try the same thing with other alien heads I get a different result. Yeah the facial animations are a drawback but being a PC head it really doesn't bother me. |

From the screenshots it looks like you've set a Duros head over standard human body. It looks a bit like a caricature I know it allows to wear every armor/robe but stil this big head looks odd.
There is a mod with Tusken Rider as PC which has normal Tusken body model and every piece of armor is adjusted to it. It must have been great amount of work but the effect is much better. |

I did in fact put the Duros head onto the standard human body. While the head looks big on it, thats because the head really is big and it looks big on the Duros body as well
RedRob's Tusken Raider mod is very good and indeed did take a ton of work (I've disected it before... hehe) but in my opinion that method wasn't necessary for the Duros - in other words, I wouldn't put a Tusken head onto a human body, but I think it looks fine for the Duros. If it makes you feel any better though yumemi13, I am planning on finishing out the Yoda/Vandar model using the same method as RedRob41's Tusken mod. I like to hear other opinions though thank you for the feedback. |

Dak_Drexl From: Joined: January 5th, 2010 Posts: 219 | Thanks! I'll say what I said in my readme:
I'm not sure if there will be an updated version .5 adding more heads because as far as I can see they are all very different in terms of adding them like this.
So what I mean is even if I do the same thing to another alien head, say a rodian, it doesn't work the same
I've been trying to work with them though every once in a while mixed in with other projects. I'm glad you liked this one though! |

If so why did I find it in KOTOR 2 mods? |
Dak_Drexl From: Joined: January 5th, 2010 Posts: 219 | I don't know why you found it in kotor 2 mods!
It was made for K1, but it might work in TSL since all the files are in both games. I've never tried myself but it's worth a try. |
DarthMaultest From: Joined: December 3rd, 2010 Posts: 5 | lol. Revan is a duros. I wonder how that works out with bastila.... or carth depending on the gender. Still nice work |
iiMaru From: Joined: November 1st, 2011 Posts: 11 | Hey! I wonder if you could make a 'Ice as Pc' mod? ^__^ i've always thought she looked pretty awesome and i now know her model files are ''comm_w_f02.tga, comm_w_f2.mdl and comm_w_f2.mdx'' but i don't know how to make her a playable character.. I'm not that good at modding, i only know how to reskin existing chars..so i thought i'd leave this to a pro > w < |
