Kotor Damage Calculator - File Description

Ladies and gentlemen, after a long delay it is wonderful to be back with a very special file for you today. DSevenO makes their KotORFiles debut with a utility, which allows the user to calculate hte damage that any character can do in battle in either KotOR game. The damage calculator allows you to input all the relevant information, including force powers, feats, and for KotOR II lightsaber forms, and will then work out the average damage per round that a character can do. No installation is required, but the programme does require .NET Framework 2.0 installed to run. Users should read the readme for more information on the ins-and-outs of the calculator's functioning.

Overall this is a fantastic little utility, and a great addition to the collection for anyone who likes to get into the mechanics of the game. There's nothing which seems to be wrong per se with the calculator, though expansion with the ability to input player stats would be nice, and might improve the application. Nevertheless, this is a great application well worth downloading. We look forward to seeing more from this author in future. big grin

| Kotor I and II Damage Calculator v.1.0 (Created by DsevenO) |

Note: You must have .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable installed for this program to run.

What it does:

This program was coded using Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic) and calculates the average damage per round for all combinations of weapon types, feats, powers, and saber forms in both Kotor I and Kotor II.

Note: Prior to releasing this program I checked the internet to see if anything similar had already been done. It seems that a few years back someone wrote a program for Kotor I that calculates lightsaber damage for a singular attack. I obviously had nothing to do with the creation of that program; as stated above, this program covers all weapon types and feat/power/saber form combinations from both Kotor I and II.

Why I wrote the program (in case you care):

Having become utterly disillusioned with the World of Warcraft: Cataclsym expansion, I quit playing WoW and set my sights to the future and the pending release of The Old Republic. (I only ever played WoW because Star Wars Galaxies was ruined by the class system overhaul, but I digress...). In anticipation of TOR, I took a walk down memory lane and started playing Kotor I and II again (Kotor II is particuarly nice now that much of the cut content has been restored by the team over at DeadlyStream.com). At any rate, being a min/maxer I found myself constantly doing pencil and paper math to figure out the best possible damage per round any particular character could do depending on the weapons/powers/feats available to them. I finally got sick of it and decided to write my first computer program in over three years, and the result is this little application. I have tested various weapon/feat/power/saber form combinations, and the results seem to match everything that I have come up with using pencil and paper.

If anyone can find any errors or if you have questions about the formulas used for calculating damage per round, please let me know. I can be contacted at DsevenO@hotmail.com - please use "Damage Calculator" in the subject line and be as specific as possible about the data you entered if you had a problem - thanks kindly.

Kotor I and II have separate categories because certain feats/powers behave differently in the two versions.

Program assumes a 5% miss rate (ie. rolling a 1).

Program assumes negligible enemy defense.

Program assumes all threat rolls are successful.

When using a keen weapon, be sure to input the unmodified ("base") threat range of the weapon and then make sure the "yes" radio button is checked where it asks if the weapon is keen or not.

When using a non-keen double-bladed saber (which has a 5 percent threat range) with soresu form, you will still have a 5 percent chance to crit.

Bonus damage from saber crystals, passive damage increasing feats, weapon upgrades, strength, etc. are automatically incorporated into the equipped damage range of a weapon on the equip screen (even damage vs. darkside is included, which I found odd since not all enemies are darkside).

Bonus damage such as damage vs. droid and on-hit poison damage are not included in this program's calculations; I could have included special categories for these but I didn't feel it was worth it.

If your weapon can do massive criticals, but as a flat damage bonus instead of a damage range, put the flat damage bonus in both boxes.

If you have an updated version of Kotor I, power blast, sniper shot, and rapid shot will all work with master speed. In Kotor II only rapid shot will work with master speed/fury/frenzy.

This application may be redistributed as long as credit is given.
