|TSL Music Replacement Mod - File Description
Description:
Now this was an interesting mod review. Only because it was the first time I ever reviewed a music mod. Talking about the details of a mod like this can be difficult because you are describing sound, not images, not stats of an item, etc. I have to tell you that this mod sent in by Torthane is a good one. It’s a mod that has music composed by Justin R. Durban. I have never heard of this person or the music he has composed before and to tell you the truth, my first impression of this mod while I was waiting for it to finish downloading to listen to the music wasn’t exactly positive. I really like the music in TSL, so the idea of replacing it didn’t set well with me. I wasn’t thinking a person with an open mind is the best way to describe it.
So after I finished downloaded it for my review and started listening to it, I had a change of heart about my original feelings. To actually get a real feel of this mod, I would have to actually play with it in the game and go through it entirety. The hours it would take for me to actually do that would be too much and the author would wonder why it’s taking so long for the file to get up. The great thing about having such a great knowledge of TSL is that I know the game well enough that the numbers on the music files tells me what module a certain piece of music goes to. So I actually took the time to imagine myself in a particular module based on the music piece, while waiting for it to upload to the site for downloading because that did take some time to do. I did that for the area themes and then imagined myself in combat in particular modules each piece of music would cover. To tell you the truth, sometimes I got major chills go up my back when I visualized myself in combat in certain areas of the game knowing a particular piece of music is being played in a particular part of the game.
After hearing each piece of music, I don’t know which one is my favorite yet since I liked so many different ones. That should tell you that the music overall will be a good mod. At least I think so.
Note: Please leave the author feedback, especially if you download this mod and use it. It really helps encourage the author to make more mods in the future.

The only thing I don't like about this mod is the amps aren't high enough. The people who have played this in the game probably have noticed that the music isn't as loud as the original TSL music.
So, on my personal use, I have upped them on each piece of music and now can hear the music clearly.
I also cut some of the tracks to only have them play the really intense music parts.
I also added shorts with it. You still hear the music from the original game when you get out of combat and go back to area music. I made little shorts from this music so you don't hear the orginal anymore in any way just about.

I have to say this mod is ambitious. Revamping the entire "soundtrack" of a game is no small task. However, I've come to find that the music from both KOTOR games are perfect just the way they are. Jeremy Soule (composer from KOTOR I) and Mark Griskey (composer from KOTOR II) captured the essense and feel of Star Wars that has been made infamous by John Williams, yet made it feel new by creating the music to match the Old Republic era.
Not to take anything away from the composer of the music from this mod (Justin Durban), this music is just not "Star Wars-y", period. I'm sure it wasn't written to be, but its painfully obvious if you are a connoisseur of all 6 movie soundtracks. This music would fit better in a medieval/fantasy type RPG (similar to Final Fantasy). My suggestion would be to download the mod first, listen to some of the tracks (especially the battle ones, which are labeled "mus_bat_###.mp3", then decide if you really want to replace the music.

I figure a lot of fans used to the "Star Wars Sound" will give this low or average ratings, but I think this is quite a score. It makes the game feel like an epic space opera and not some '80s retro fest. That's the problem I've always had with the music in the films, "Duel of the Fates" aside. Awesome, awesome work.

Having played through this game with these new music tracks, I would say that I love it. It is indeed different from what may constitute as regular star wars music, but I felt most of the tracks fit the atmosphere and setting nicely. Great mod.

I must say: this mod is a must-have. The scores are superior, in every way, in my humble opinion. Don't get me wrong- the original TSL music is wonderful, truly! However, this mod helps to further engulf you in the game. I definitely recommend downloading this!

To me the most important thing in a game or movie is the music, without it, you cannot grasp the feeling of the story or action, this mod really makes the game more epic, it feels like a whole new star wars and it works really well. I have just started the game, and only just finished the mining facility, but already I hear big improvements over the music, this is a big plus and a great recommendation for new players like me or vets who are looking to replay the game.

The scores are well put together but... this is Star Wars, not Narnia. Give it some elbow room. I will have to agree with Matadore on #9. It's not even close. I do like the music though. It's just that it doesn't fit the environment... the Star Wars environment.

this is a different kind of music for a different kind of star wars. i find it more appropriate than the default music, honestly. it's dark and subtle, much like sith lords itself. the tracks are all selected excellently. i feel this is best highlighted with nar shaddaa's environment music, and the final battle's music (which has gone from outrageously loud and over the top to a more personal and dramatic percussion and bass track which fits your final opponent better, i think).
i honestly never liked the default music anyway. it's incredibly generic bordering on forgettable, the complete opposite of star wars, which has always been about strong themes everywhere.
this mod takes a different approach that fits TSL's subject matter well.

I downloaded this and listened to it in Windows Media Player.
Needless to say, I was amazed, but to top of the awesomeness, the background formed into a shape and color much like the hyperspace tunnel you see when in the Ebon Hawk, just after Peragus.
