I'd prefer if it wasn't am online game. I'm still hoping (uselessly) that they'll make a KotOR 3 Cry. I guess I'll check it out eventually.

#2 - Posted by: KURODO (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 14:01
it looks good, but knowing the most recent games like DOW II sims 3 and such, my computer wont be able to handle it. i can only run DOW II on low end settings. TOR will be like dual core processor spec sorta level anyways.

im not Phased bout it tbh.

I am looking forward to the mmo but I don't count it as a KotOR 3,m i still think it is something else entirely.

I am looking forward to the mmo but I don't count it as a KotOR 3, i still think it is something else entirely.

#5 - Posted by: MariusFett (Staff) on 06-08-2009 at 14:14
By the time TOR is out, i'm hoping to get a nice rig put together which is suited toward gaming. This past couple of years, i've stopped PC gaming for the most part, favouring consoles, but i'm hoping to get back into it again.

I'm certainly more optimistic now than I was at first, about the game.

 #6 - Posted by: Darth_Cryptic (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 14:16
If I ever get something faster then dial up and felt like paying X many dollars a month to play I'd consider checking it out.

#7 - Posted by: MariusFett (Staff) on 06-08-2009 at 14:39
Canderis, I don't think we'll ever see a single player KotOR 3 now. But as someone said at LF (either Jae or leXX), with this MMO you're getting KotOR 3, KotOR 4 and more, because of all the hours and hours you'll get out of it.

It'll get a cult following like WoW has, despite the bitching people do about it, mark my words. wink

#8 - Posted by: DarthVendor (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 15:24
They should of had a jedi apprentice force jumping out of the buliding and killing the sith master at the end of the video. But other than that it was so @@@king awesomeRockRockRock

 #9 - Posted by: Corbec_UST (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 15:28
At first I thought it would be poor but after the video I would say im no longer a hater. I still dont care for the game (I refuse to pay every month) but it could be done well

#10 - Posted by: ellimar (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 15:51
Looks really fun! Rock

 #11 - Posted by: Tobi_Rulz (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 15:58
im still pretty meh ish

 #12 - D: - Posted by: joey_rennd (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 16:51
I WOULD, BUT NEEDS TO PAY RAWR( pardon my caps its to show how angry i am, smile)

#13 - Posted by: GreedoNeverShot (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 16:54
Should have made a third one, not one that will inevitably fail like SWG.

 #14 - Posted by: arcsquad12 (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 17:22
i dont know about that, if they sucessfully implement the fully voiced nature of the game, with multiple dialog choices instead of texting chat, i will definitely look into it

 #15 - Posted by: Revan720 (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 17:48
This game looks like it's going to be as good as knights of the old republic 1 and 2Two Thumbs Up!

 #16 - Wow... - Posted by: Malxados (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 18:22
I can hardly wait for it to come out. The trailer almost made me wish they made a feature length movie based on it insteadRockTwo Thumbs Up!. I just hope I'll be able to play it... and I don't think galaxies is that bad. I still wish I could play it on my computer

 #17 - Posted by: Jaden_Ittanenn (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 20:54
The only problem that i have with the trailer is, the sith never got tookover the jedi temple. even if they did the masters would of beat the crap out of them. (and yes i made a membership just to post this wink )

#18 - Posted by: lordpsychan (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 22:09
To be honest, I don't really care about TOR. It is just another way for Lucas Arts to earn cash and like Marius said there will be a cult following it, with players that have names such as ReVAn6039 and such. There will be no Kotor 3.

 #19 - Posted by: Darth_Chickenfeet (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 22:51
Oy. Still totally issed off that there's no kotor 3 and only this mmo. After seeing the trailer, though, I'm thinking I'll try it, if only to see if it's terrible. Still mad, though.

 #20 - Posted by: True_Sith (Member) on 06-08-2009 at 23:59
At LucasArts, the only word that really speaks to those people is 'money'. So, they've made a 'sequel', haven't they? And what do we see? Technologies that should never exist (or they're going to tell us the jetpack has been the same for the same effing 3000 years), different 'classes' (the only class one wants to be in an Old Republic game is a Jedi/Sith one) and we can surely predict this will be a breathtaking game that lasts tens of hours (the more you pay, the longer they stretch the nearly inexistant plot)... Why couldn't they make KoTOR III?

Now, THAT would have been great... Cry

 #21 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 00:54
I know I care about this game.
When was the last time we had a decent SW game?
Many will say Force Unleashed, but heck NO.
A lot of things are produced for kids with the label 'Clone Wars'.... as much as I adore the animated cartoons, I still want a more-adult like game, so yeah, me both thumbs up for the Bioware diamond - The Old Republic

#22 - Posted by: Drunkside (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 02:20
i dont understand why would anyone be more exited after seeing that trailer... Even a blind gizka could see that its just a pre rendered TRAILER with no real relation to the game.

 #23 - Posted by: Jasper_Kazai (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 03:40
I was already looking forward to it, personally, so the trailer didn't increase my interest. It was freaking awesome, though. I still want an actual gameplay trailer though.

 #24 - NO for MMO! - Posted by: yumemi13 (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 07:22
They should not underestimate the anger of MMO-haters! Aaargh!!!
There's no worse game type than MMO... and many dare to call it "role playing". No plot, no interaction witch characters or other players (even if there are bazillions on-line). Just a poorer version of hack'n'slash.
I say NO for MMO!
[Dominate Mind] They should make single-player KotOR 3.
[Intimidation] Or else...

 #25 - Posted by: Wesley_Vos (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 08:21
Personally, I have no desire to pay per month for another game. I paid for WoW for two years, and just recently realized what a drain on my finances (and my time) that was. I love the KotOR series, but I don't want a pay-per-month game. I'd much prefer a KotOR III, IV, etc. Just keep the series going instead of making a game that is designed to do nothing more than steal people's money.

#26 - Posted by: Malxados (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 10:45
I know I definately will make my first character a bounty hunter, and frankly I think they make too many games that only focus on jedi/sith. And I don't really know why lots of people hate it already. TOR isn't even finished, let alone publicly available. I may not defend it afterwords, but I'll definitely give it a try.

 #27 - Posted by: general_marco (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 12:09
Are most of you guys living in caves? You comment on something about which, apparently have no f*****g idea. The developers kept pointing out countless times that it WILL be story based. It will have the cool player-npc interactions seen in both KotOR's, even 2 players and an npc in one conversation. And I'm guessing most of you here have also missed the part where BioWare said that this will be the first MMORPG that will have full voice-over. The smuggler class interview revealed, that the smuggler will have a cover system implemented. Have you guys seen a cover system in a MMO? I certainly haven't. As updates keep comming at swtor.com it gets ever more interesting, so I advise you next time you want to comment about this game, to check some info there first.

 #28 - Posted by: Jaden_Ittanenn (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 13:10
they could also have a life-time member ship so yo uonly pay x amount of $ and i pays for it self in x amount of time

 #29 - Uhh - Posted by: RevansApprentice (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 14:24
They didn't show any gameplay or anything just a trailer and trailers are usually different from the real game.

MMO is not a very good idea.

#30 - Posted by: DarthHK (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 15:36
Your "I"s aren't capitalized. For shame!

 #31 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-09-2009 at 23:31
Honestly, complaining won't help guys.
The game is being developed, and nothing can stop it... except SKYNET T_T
Anywho, find something positive to stick with this game, or I'll...

 #32 - Posted by: general_marco (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 01:32
To #29 - You are just another example, that most of you here have no idea about the progress and updates they show at swtor.com. There are ample videos (documentary and otherwise) that show gameplay. And please if you do check them out, don't jump into any conclusions that the gameplay will stay the same and so on. It's still very early to say that anything will stay the same. Btw the trailer was meant to show some moves that classes will have in-game. Like the smuggler cover system or the Sith leap.

 #33 - QQ - Posted by: _Darth_Donut_ (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 02:25
QQ a little more, they can't hear you all at Bioware HQ. Get over your probably never going to see a kotor again. So wipe your tears and grow up, honestly; I'm glad you kids cant get your mommies credit cards it Will increase the maturity on there SWtoR Servers. Point (A) $15 a month is cheaper then getting in your car driving to the movies and just buying your ticket (that's no soda, no popcorn) Point (B) LotRO offered a flat rate for life if you reserved i wouldn't doubt Bioware would pass on that(its gonna be like $120, so don't cry about that either). All these people complaining about ingame trailer, at E3 Bioware and G4 Both said there was going to be something special a ComicCon. I am a Huge Fan and Looking very Forward to SWtoR and seeing all you non-haters ingame.

 #34 - Posted by: Star_Wars_Pro93 (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 07:09
HMPH! Sure, the trailer was awesome and cool as hell, but the game isn't gonna look anything like the trailer. It's impossible. TOR is gonna suck frownfrown

#35 - paying takes me back - Posted by: alon_hunter (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 08:28
I've seen all the trailers of the swtor webpage, and i can say that i agree with general marco, they show gamplaying. The scenery is mavellous and the actions very well done(as far as i saw) but i've never liked to pay for an MMO (i've never done it and i will not , even thought the game is amazing).
I think would prefer they kept it as it actually is(as kotor 1 or 2), because after a few years they close the servers and the game get useless(as they dont get enough money because people stop playing)...

 #36 - #34 - Posted by: Malxados (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 09:52
Are you serious? You really don't have any way of knowing how the game will turn out. I honestly haven't even seen anything yet that I think will make the game worse. I agree with people like ALIEN, Darth Donut, and general marco

#37 - Posted by: oilsupply (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 13:21
I won't be getting it, I'm not a fan of MMOs and I resent having to pay for them monthly *after* paying full price for the disc. Still holding out for KoToR 3, regardless of how unlikely it is it'll ever happen.

Very much agreed with comment #25, Wesley Vos. I played Star Wars Galaxies (don't hate me) for years (somehow), it's less about how good the gameplay will be and more about how time consuming and expensive it's more than likely going to be.

 #38 - #37 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 14:00
Do you know why there is a monthy fee?
It's not only for the pockets you know.
Holding grand servers with millions of people takes a lot of electricity and the software is being replaced every 6 months if I'm correct.
Yes, it's mostly for profit, but it's gonna be worth it, I mean, SW-story based MMO game where I can finally develop a character?
Yes.

#39 - Posted by: oilsupply (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 14:38
Credit crunch innit.

 #40 - Posted by: paulskywalker2000 (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 15:51
Story based MMO? LOL! Oxymorons. Seriously, every MMO tries to make a storyline out of it's beginning, but ends up failing epically.
Haven't you ever noticed that in an MMO (like SWG, which, I admit, I once loved), they try to make it seem like your special, when you're doing NOTHING SPECIAL!?!?mad It's another lie, and it's not going to work.
Also, I have to admit, the trailer was totally awesome! The Lightsaber duel was amazing, and I hated seeing both that Jedi Master impaled and the Jedi Temple fried...Cry but that's NOT WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT!!! If it was about that war, then that would be awesome! But it's about the times afterward! Boring!embarrasment
BioWare also needs to answer a lot of questions; if these are the oh-so-fearsome True Sith, then what happened to the Exile and Revan? Didn't Revan tell Carth and Canderous to ready the Republic and the Mandalorians for a big war? Well, then they should have put up a much larger fight! It doesn't make sense.
Also, like someone mentioned before, I can't wait to see items from the Galactic Civil War and the Clone War make it into a game that takes place almost 4,000 years ago. There goes continuity.
Lastly, BioWare claims that this will be greater then all of their past RPGs...combined.
Not possible.
The Baldur's Gate series. The Neverwinter Nights series. The Knights of the Old Republic series. Mass Effect. Great games, and huge (personally, BG is still my favorite). And their huuuuuuuuge. So how DARE they try to market this MMO by slandering their past games!?!?
Of course, I'm probably going to start a flame war and end up not changing anyones' opinions, but I had to make the statement anyway. KotOR III isn't happening and this thing is coming out. But I had to make some things evident.

 #41 - Timeline - Posted by: _Darth_Donut_ (Member) on 06-10-2009 at 20:09
OK. so i did hate that the jedi died too but here's what Bioware and LucasArts had to say about Explaining the trailer
"The Sacking of Coruscant. It was the crowning achievement of the Sith Empire’s ambitious military strategy and the moment that changed the history of the Old Republic forever. You may have read about it before, but our first cinematic trailer captures this event with breathtaking action and beautiful detail.
Republic leaders have traveled to Alderaan to engage in promised peace talks with the Sith Empire. The MOST POWERFUL Jedi have accompanied them to safeguard against an Imperial deception. The Empire’s real motive, however, was simply to lure the Republic’s STRONGEST DEFENDERS away from Coruscant and set the stage for an audacious attack. Under the command of Lord Angral, the Sith fleet approaches the Republic’s capital planet for the first time in centuries. In advance of the fleet, the STRONGEST Sith Warriors have flown a stolen Republic ship into Coruscant’s orbit. Their mission is critical – to destroy the planet’s defense grid mainframe hidden in the heart of the Jedi Temple." hope that clears up some confusion as to why the jedi was slain quite easily.

 #42 - Posted by: halcyon1989 (Member) on 06-11-2009 at 06:27
The trailer was good but like someone already said it's just pre rendered
and I actually hate the ideal of having to pay to play it every month
I love KOTOR but I wanted a continuation of Revan or at least the exiles
storyTwo Thumbs Down!

 #43 - #42 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-11-2009 at 08:59
I do not think that they are going to cut it out.
They will most definately put it in there.

 #44 - Posted by: arcsquad12 (Member) on 06-11-2009 at 13:09
i am definitley looking forward to this game even if there is continuity errors. Bioware is much more competent at telling stories than george lucas, and their games show it! look at Mass Effect. Unlike Lucas, Bioware actually made intergalactic politics INTRIGUING. and im sure if the great galactic war was so important, bioware would most likely have some flashback missions ingame.

one gripe however, this game doesnt seem to acknowledge KOTOR 2s existence, apart from the name, True Sith. they make no mention of the exile and her quest, or any of the sith civil war.

but anyho, that was obsidians game, so if bioware doesnt want any part of it, so be it.

one thing that HAS to make a return however is the combat system from KOTOR. it simply rocked! i dont even need to describe it because im sure most of you like it as well! my one problem with mmos is how they handled combat, simply put, it sucked. there was no feel of duelling, just "i hit you, run away, and hit you again".

never liked that, be one can hope bioware will not do the same!

 #45 - Posted by: Fatmouse31415 (Member) on 06-11-2009 at 14:36
I used to absolutely hate the idea, but the more Bioware talks about the gameplay, the more I think that I'm actually going to get the game.

#46 - Posted by: Cinna (Member) on 06-11-2009 at 16:36
I will try it to see if there is a good roleplaying community. If so, I shall keep playing smile

 #47 - Posted by: Leonard_L_Church (Member) on 06-12-2009 at 15:08
I absolutely love how people are calling this game bad just because of other MMO's made by DIFFEREINT Developers.
I just love it.
Personally, I'm getting this, because unlike others who think it'll be bad because other MMO's are bad, I beleive that Bioware can pull this off, and I look forward to a day when it tops WoW, so I can rub it in their faces.

 #48 - #47 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-13-2009 at 00:09
That makes 2 of us.
I simply do not understand how people can play WoW for so long.
I've been playing for one month and got sick and tired of leveling.
I mean, there isn't much to do there except killing someone or something =/

 #49 - Posted by: general_marco (Member) on 06-13-2009 at 07:51
To #40 - I'm not wasting my time of explaining the same s**t over and over again. But since you mentioned the war, I'll explain to you some stuff. First off the trailer shows the beggining of the "Sacking of Coruscant", which is quite a while off from the the first attack against the Republic and the return of the True Sith from deep space. Check out the timeline videos at swtor.com. There are just two availabe for now, but you can see the backtracking of previous events, as old as the "Discovery of the Force" that will be shown in the comming months. Now as to what has happened to the Revan and the Exile - that is unknown to anyone and won't be revealed anytime soon. But since it took the True Sith 300 years after the events of the Jedi Civil War to finally attack the Republic, we can assume that Revan's and the Exile's mission was nearly successful, because they haven't stopped them fully, but have set the Empire back 3 centuries. Presumably they are both dead. Although there is also this concept art http://www.swtor.com/media/concepts/sith-imprisonment-chamber - "An ancient Sith imprisonment chamber holding a long-forgotten captive.", so there is a chance one of them might be still alive.
I'm tired of people that whine about the similarity between stuff from ToR and the movies. You ask why they had to do that? The answer is simple.. it's like a fan of the old trilogy complaining that there are too many similarities between stormtrooper and clonetrooper armor. For something to evolve, it needs to have roots.
P.S. Yes, this game is really this big, because in order to see every side of the story with all of it's alternate endings, you would need to play each class that will be available and from the looks of it, there will be quite a bunch.

 #50 - Posted by: general_marco (Member) on 06-13-2009 at 07:54
Sorry for some unnecessary "the"s.

#51 - Posted by: lordpsychan (Member) on 06-13-2009 at 18:36
Can we stop fighting over a game that we know nothing about except developer's notes and just answer the question. We don't need to waste our time complaining about a game that is not out yet; that's what the forums are for.

 #52 - Posted by: Keeper_DP (Member) on 06-14-2009 at 04:46
I want Kotor 3.

 #53 - #52 - Posted by: A_L_I_E_N (Member) on 06-14-2009 at 05:08
I want all the so called SW fans who are n00bs to be demolished... aah, dreams...

 #54 - Posted by: alon_hunter (Member) on 06-14-2009 at 06:09
I just said i dont like paying.but it seems the game will really worth it...

 #55 - think about it - Posted by: StarKiller9524 (Member) on 06-14-2009 at 06:37
I think you guys have to forget about KOTOR 3. They didn't make that because it would be a deadend. The exile goes to find revan and finds him dead in front of the true sith. the true sith will kill the exile and revan, thats how it goes. they also didn't make it because they didn't make enough money off of KOTOR2. that game was a failure. So, they are going with a completely blank part of the star wars timeline..300 years later, the true sith return, and wage war on the republic.
If you ask me, that is a perfect time to play in. Also, the trailer was completely awesome!!! That had to have been cooler than the movies!

#56 - Posted by: GiygasUnlimited (Member) on 06-16-2009 at 14:11
I didn't hate it before, and I still don't. LucasArts killed my anticipation by announcing Monkey Island 5, though.

 #57 - #55 - Posted by: Leonard_L_Church (Member) on 06-16-2009 at 17:12
Waitaminute, how do you know they'll die?
Sure the TS are still there, obviously, but that doesn't mean they killed them.
First, theres that concept art pic, which gives a little clue "A long forgotten captive" or something along those lines, second off, Obsidian made KotOR 2, not Bioware, so yea, Bioware made $0 on KotOR 2.

#58 - Posted by: DarthBandon (Member) on 06-16-2009 at 18:41
have any of you guys realized no on really cares what you think or what your going to do? eek! Bioware will do what Bioware wants to do. plain and simple.

 #59 - #55 and #57 - Posted by: I_Jedi (Member) on 06-17-2009 at 12:01
#55

Yes, KOTOR 2 was somewhat of a failure, but they were rushed by LA. It be somewhat risky to do a KOTOR 3, but I think the same is for the MMO.

#57

The only piece of information that we get for Revan is from Ludo Kressh's tomb. Remember that last fight? I think that the Exile fought Revan; but it is unknown if Revan died in the attack.

So, I think that if Bioware had more time in the past, there would be a higher chance of a RPG instead of an MMO that we need to pay big for.

#60 - @People whining about continuity - Posted by: Xodyac (Member) on 06-18-2009 at 12:19
They actually had the "Sacking of Coruscant" article a looooooooooooooong time before TOR was even thought of. It's from a comic, if I remember correctly. Back in the late 1990's, early 2000s. So it is all completely canon.

 #61 - Posted by: alon_hunter (Member) on 06-21-2009 at 06:14
I thoght that when the exile found "Revan" in the tomb, it was just an hallucination as the rest of the things that happen in that tomb... so i dont think that revan is dead.

#62 - To be honest... - Posted by: PadawanAndrew (Member) on 06-21-2009 at 08:34
I don't really care if it's an MMO. I'm still gonna get it. I mean, I DO hope they'll make a KOTOR 3 for consoles eventually but until that ever happens I'll just play this. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

This MMO is definitely not KOTOR III, for one.

And that's a good thing.

I really don't understand why anyone would want a KOTOR III, especially when such effort could be placed into professionally restoring TSL (a potentially great game). And there's no point for a K3, really. The antagonists (Revan's Empire, Sith Triumvirate, Exchange, Czerka) are either dead, defeated, or grievously damaged. There would be nothing else to do other than the True Sith, and frankly it would be too early for them to be attacking head on.

And as I've said on LF, TOR touches upon the only hope for saving the Star Wars franchise from the hole dug by TFU and the more recent movie era material: personal epic. We need to stop having overpowered Secret Apprentices or Skywalkers who will save the Galaxy from the Evil Overlord and his deus ex machina! It is time for the fans to put themselves into the Star Wars universe. And why would that be a bad thing? You, not Revan, the Exile, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, Jaden Korr, Galen Marek, or Kyle Katarn, but YOU, will be able to wield your own lightsaber, or play pazaak, or race a swoop bike, or join the Republic military, or claim a bounty, or maybe even fly a frickin' STARSHIP!

So MMO haters and TOR haters...I beg you to reconsider what you are opposing. You are not likely to get your K3, because Bioware is giving you something so much better. And yes, they are going to make money. SO WHAT? Money is the only reason why KOTOR, TSL, the Internet, games, Star Wars, and frankly any artificial aspect of life exists! This might sound patronizing and condescending and I do not mean to be, but people don't make great things purely out of good will. Most of the time they make it for the money. Some times you'll have someone who does it for both reasons. In this case, I say we should at least wait until the game is released, because the people who have played the beta have all given this great reviews.
